William Somerset Maugham depicts Philip as having three ladies throughout his life that are critical to Philip’s character. These three ladies are Mildred Rogers, Norah Nesbit, and Sally Athelny. Mildred is a negative impact on Philip while the other two ladies fill in as positive impacts in Philip’s life. Of the three, Philip adores Mildred the most, however Mildred cherishes him not.
